Xerox Adds to Industry-Leading Line of Nuvera Production Printers; Strengthens Leadership in High-Volume Black-and-White Print Market

in

CHICAGO, Sept. 14, 2009  -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) has strengthened its position as the leader in digital black-and-white production printing with the introduction of the Xerox Nuvera™ 200 and 288 MX Perfecting Production Systems. These MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) products - that print checks, rebate coupons and financial forms - extend the Xerox Nuvera platform to 10 products.

Also, the company launched new finishing options for the entire Xerox Nuvera line and enhancements to the Xerox Nuvera EA family.

"Last year, Xerox led the worldwide high-end black-and-white market with more than 70 percent of all production-class cut-sheet shipments, and is well positioned to sustain a leadership position by continuing to enhance its Nuvera portfolio," said Riley McNulty, research manager, IDC Production and Large Format Printing Service1.

Xerox Nuvera MX fleet offers cost-effective transactional printing
The Xerox Nuvera 200/288 MX Perfecting Production systems print at 200 and 288 images per minute, respectively, and deliver consistent, durable and secure transactional documents with high-caliber 4800 x 600 dpi image resolution. Xerox MICR technology enables reliable encoding for consistent scanning and reading by high-speed magnetic readers/sorters - required by the industry when processing printed negotiable documents.

Both systems use tandem architecture, meaning two print engines are designed and managed as one. A benefit of this design is "pass through programming" - this keeps the system running even if one of the engines needs service, providing maximum productivity and uptime. continue reading...

Xerox 700 Digital Color Press Generates Profits for Print Providers Worldwide; Device Wins Print Industry Awards

in

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 02, 2009  -- Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) 700 Digital Color Press is significantly expanding print volume and revenue for thousands of global print providers in its first year on the market. Profitable applications include photo books, brochures, direct mail pieces, catalogs, calendars and postcards.

Revenue-producing successes with the Xerox 700 include:

  • Commercial print provider generates new business - Coast Litho (C.L. Printing, Inc.), based in Oakland, Calif., produces short-run proofs for graphic designers, variable data postcards, full-color restaurant menus and custom artist exhibit brochures. The Xerox 700 has brought in new customers and driven digital revenue from previous offset-only customers.
  • Photo print shop jumps into digital printing - photo specialty products are the fastest growing application for Harold's Photo Centers, Inc., a retail chain with eight locations in South Dakota and Iowa. They produce about 500,000 greeting cards annually, including 100,000 graduation cards in 2008.

"When film processing began to decline, we jumped into digital printing with both feet - and the Xerox 700 is making it work for us," said Bob Hanson, president, Harold's Photo Centers, Inc. continue reading...

  • Printer produces direct mail pieces with double-digit response rates - Ink Well Cleveland produced full-color, variable data marketing pieces for a local pizza shop, including appetizing photos and a coupon. The piece generated a 13 percent response rate and six other pizza franchises have signed up for similar direct mail campaigns, bringing in new business for Ink Well Cleveland.
  • Marketing and technology agency to generate high-end marketing collateral - U.K.-based Magnet Harlequin selected the Xerox 700 to provide its globally recognized, brand name clients fast turnaround, high image quality and spot color accuracy. The press will be used to create high-end marketing collateral and documents, many of which will be personalized.
  • Textbook publisher drives down overhead - Croatia-based Dvogled d.o.o. produces customized teachers' packs with transparencies quickly, cost effectively and in the exact quantity required. One job for 60,000 transparencies was turned around in four days. When produced on offset, there were significant costs for set-up, warehousing, and replacing outdated materials, resulting in a much higher cost per packs.

Xerox Drives New Security Standards for Office Printing Products

in

NORWALK, Conn., Aug. 25, 2009  -- An office copier may seem harmless enough, but today's printing devices are sophisticated systems that are as much at risk of being hacked as networked computers and servers. Each time a document is copied, printed, scanned or faxed, an image is left behind on the system's hard drive. Without proper security measures, confidential information can easily be stolen.

To help ensure security standards are consistent across the printing industry, Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) collaborated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and other hardware vendors to create the Hardcopy Device and System Security Working Group.

The efforts of the Working Group include development of the "2600 Profile," which outlines a general set of requirements vendors must follow for building secure devices. For example, the profile requires that proper authentication and authorization of users is performed before allowing access, and that the device keeps a security audit log of all activity. It also provides Common Criteria laboratories with a checklist for evaluating printer and MFP security.

Xerox's ColorQube™ 9200 Series MFP is currently undergoing certification using the 2600 profile, and is the first product expected to be certified.

"Many manufacturers claim their products are secure, but we take every measure to provide concrete assurance that our products protect data as it's printed, copied and shared," said Larry Kovnat, product security manager, Xerox Corporation. "This profile makes it easier for IT departments to identify which products will best meet their security requirements." continue reading...

Xerox's ColorQube Solid Ink Multifunction Printer Honored with Outstanding Achievement Award

    in

NORWALK, Conn., 20 July 2009 -- Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) ColorQube™ 9200 Series multifunction printer (MFP) received an Outstanding Achievement Award from Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI) for its innovative pricing structure, ease of use and environmental benefits. The honor marks the third industry award bestowed on the world's first high-speed solid ink MFP since it was launched in May.

The independent testing lab called out Xerox's Hybrid Color Pricing Plans, which can reduce color page costs by up to 62 percent compared to traditional color laser MFPs - without compromising quality. With these new plans, customers pay only for the amount of color used on any given page, and pages with logos or color highlights cost the same as a black-and-white page.

Managers from a wide range of businesses report that the unique pricing structure lets them keep more print jobs in-house, increasing productivity and use of color while reducing costs. School officials at St. Augustine College, the only bilingual institution of higher education in the Midwest, now incorporate color into most of their documents and have been able to internally manage more print jobs. Life Services Network, a nonprofit network of adult care providers in Illinois, has also been able to increase their in-house printing without increasing costs.

"The Xerox ColorQube saves us both time and money. We use our MFP to create 30-page reports on customer satisfaction surveys, something we do quite frequently. This MFP allows us to quickly compile our reports, with fantastic color graphics, without having to ever leave the building," said Scott Parker, director of marketing and communications at Life Services Network. continue reading...
