Xerox Makes Student Registration at Pennsylvania School District as Easy as ABCs

in
BOSTON, 04 March 2008 -- When the Wilkes-Barre School District in Pennsylvania decided to do something about its antiquated and arduous student enrollment process, it turned to Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) and a key Xerox partner, SRC Solutions Inc. The companies created a digital enrollment system that combines Xerox advanced multifunction systems (MFPs), a customized scanning solution from SRC, and Xerox's DocuShareTM document management software. The system, which automates and digitizes much of the old manual process, will enable the 7,000-student district to reduce the registration process from two weeks per child to just 30 minutes. In addition to saving the district invaluable time, errors will be reduced and management and archiving dramatically improved. The solution relies on Xerox's Extensible Interface PlatformTM (EIP) technology, which is built into many of the company's MFPs. Based on Web standards, EIP allows independent software vendors and developers to create applications for MFPs, such as scan-to-email, that make it easier to move hard-copy documents into digital files. In addition, EIP lets developers customize the MFPs' touch screens for use by specific individuals or workgroups. SRC Solutions' EZ School Registration application leverages EIP to provide school administrators an intuitive way to scan, index and validate student records. For the Wilkes-Barre solution, SRC also integrated EZ School Registration with Xerox's DocuShare CPX enterprise content management software. To round out the solution, SRC integrated Streem Communications L.L.C.'s Fax and Alert Notification applications. With the new solution, which will be rolled out over the next six months, student forms will be scanned in directly at Xerox MFPs located in all Wilkes-Barre schools, and routed - automatically from the devices - to their proper locations in the school district's Xerox DocuShare system. Afterward, administrators will be able to access those records directly from the touch screen of a Xerox EIP-enabled device. When a student is selected, an image of the child will be displayed directly on the MFP screen, along with the student's record and a list of required and outstanding registration documents. To input documents, school personnel will simply select the document they're ready to file, such as a birth certificate, and scan it directly into the student's record. "The EZ School Registration solution will change the way we do business as a school district and put our resources where we need them - shaping the minds of students," said Charolette Kordek, director of information management, Wilkes-Barre School District. "Xerox's EIP platform delivers on the promise of technology by taking advantage of the network and hardware we are investing in to create a simplified workflow that allows us to work easier, faster and better." Previously, all records for the 7,000-student district were copied, placed in hard copy folders and physically transferred from department to department and school to school for filing. This took energy and time away from school administrators and parents, as well as occupying precious district storage space. Xerox unveiled the first software solutions and a new developers program for EIP one year ago at the AIIM/On Demand 2007. Since then the company has received nearly 1,000 applications to download the development kit. In addition, there are now more than 19 EIP-enabled software solutions available worldwide, and EIP is now available on 21 Xerox office MFPs. "The enthusiastic response of developers, system integrators and end users tells us that EIP is meeting a critical need for solutions that take the complexity out of day-to-day office processes," said Roger Ellefson, manager of Solutions Marketing, Xerox Office Group. "EIP is just one way that Xerox is making work easier for customers and helping to reduce the time and money spent handling documents." System integrators and developers like SRC Solutions are using EIP to do far more than sell a printer or piece of software. They can leverage the functionality of the multifunction device to quickly meet their customers' needs with business process solutions. "EIP makes every connection count for our company - technology, workflow, business and partner opportunities now have even more potential," said Patrick Maher, president and founder, SRC Solutions. "Xerox's EIP has allowed me to differentiate myself from the competition and open up new streams of revenue." continue reading...

More Color Print Volume Means More Business, Profit for Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Press Customers

in
BOSTON, 03 March 2008 -- With 126 Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) customers worldwide now printing 1 million or more pages per month per machine on their iGen3™ Digital Production Presses, Xerox continues to help customers boost their sales in the lucrative digital color printing market, where more pages mean more profit. One customer has even eclipsed 3 million pages in a single month on a single iGen3 press. The average monthly print volume on the Xerox iGen3 press is now 500,000 pages. Building on this success, Xerox is launching new features for the iGen3 press that provide even greater image quality and productivity.Since its launch in 2002, the Xerox iGen3 press - which runs at 90 or 110 pages per minute - has helped businesses large and small create a wide-variety of applications and generate profitable color pages. Xerox continues to be the leader in color page volume with color pages growing more than 30 percent from 2006 to 2007."The iGen3 press is a key factor contributing to the redefinition of the digital production color market. It has been a catalyst for growth in digital color pages, many of which complement offset output in printing environments that rely on both technologies," said Riley McNulty, research manager, Production and Large Format Printing Markets at IDC, a global provider of market intelligence and advisory services. "The iGen3 press continues to receive well-deserved attention for its market-making innovative technology, productivity and image quality." Valued at $68 billion in 2007, the global digital printing market opportunity for print providers is expected to double by 2012 according to industry consultancy Pira International. There are now more than 2,000 Xerox iGen3 presses installed worldwide, with 275 customers having installed two or more iGen3 presses to meet their increased demand for full-color jobs, such as marketing brochures, photo books, catalogs, personalized direct-mail pieces and invoices and statements that include customized marketing messages. For an increasingly environmentally conscious world, printing on demand has the advantage of creating jobs only in the quantity and at the time needed, reducing waste and inventory space. Digital success with iGen3 presses Mercury Print Productions, a commercial print and media solutions provider, operates six iGen3 presses at its facilities in Rochester, N.Y. The company's first two iGen3 presses have produced a total of 120 million pages since they were installed less than five years ago. Three of the company's iGen3 presses are equipped with Lasermax Roll Systems and Xerox FreeFlow™ Application Series Software for Teacher's Edition textbooks, a book solution that provides a cost-effective way of printing state- and region-specific textbooks. These presses each produce more than 1 million pages per month. A fourth iGen3 press - equipped with Teacher's Edition software and the extended sheet size of 14.33" x 22.5" - runs covers used in case binding and also for the book blocks themselves and produces 400,000 to 600,000 covers per month. "The iGen3 presses fueled our digital printing success and have been the foundation of our digital color print production," said John Place, chief executive officer, Mercury Print Productions. "We have become an industry leader in the production of digital books for the education market and continue to produce full-color marketing materials, brochures, posters and direct-mail pieces at an incredible rate." Immediate Mailing Services, Inc., an integrated service bureau, installed its first digital system, an iGen3 110 press with Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP™ 5.1 Print Controller, in June 2007 and prints 600,000 pages per month. The company uses its press to produce transactional-promotional documents, postcards, newsletters, coupons and mail inserts. IMS creates direct-mail marketing campaigns with multiple touch-points for clients nationwide. IMS is part of Xerox's Graphic Arts Premier Partner Program, a global community of close to 700 leading digital print providers. "We selected the iGen3 press because of its image quality and speed. Combine that with its ability to print variable data on mixed substrates and you have an amazing combination," said Paul Macor, vice president of sales and marketing, Immediate Mailing Services. "Xerox's knowledge of the industry, the partnership programs it offers, and the technology and sales support the company provides really made it stand above competitive offerings." Macor said the ability to expand their services and turn jobs around in 24 hours has helped them grow their business, especially with clients whose rates, offers and promotions change rapidly and require fast response times. New product enhancements Xerox's award-winning iGen3 press is even more productive with the introduction of a new image quality enhancement and a finishing option that creates professional books and manuals automatically. International Color Consortium DeviceLink Profiling is an enhancement to Xerox's Automated Color Quality tool for Xerox iGen3 presses. It builds custom RGB and CMYK color profiles real-time during the initial job set-up using an in-line spectrophotometer for faster processing and greater color accuracy. ICC specifications are widely used in the printing industry. The C.P. Bourg Bleed Crease Module is a new optional accessory for the in-line C.P. Bourg Document Finisher (BDFx) offered on the Xerox iGen3 presses. It produces a professional saddle-stitched booklet with a clean, tight fold and supports the same wide variety of paper stocks as the BDFx, including coated stock and cover sheets. It expands the capability of the BDFx by adding the ability to full-bleed trim and crease printed sheets before they are stapled, folded and face trimmed, which increases productivity and produces higher quality finished documents. Pricing and availability International Color Consortium DeviceLink Profiling is available on all iGen3 presses equipped with the Xerox FreeFlow™ Print Server 6.0. The C.P. Bourg Bleed Crease Module is immediately available in North America at a U.S. manufacturer's list price of $47,500 including hardware, installation and operator training. in
ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 25, 2008 -- Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) document management prescription is helping healthcare organizations win the paperwork battle. By streamlining document-driven business processes, healthcare providers are achieving cost savings, ensuring regulatory compliance and realizing productivity gains. "Patient records, healthcare forms, insurance regulations...all those documents can be hard to manage, whether they are in paper or electronic form," said Valerie Mason Cunningham, vice president, Healthcare Industry, Xerox Global Services. "Healthcare executives who have a sound document management strategy will be the leaders in the industry to combat the barrage of economic and regulatory challenges. Xerox is poised to help them succeed." Baptist St. Anthony's Health System To help Texas-based Baptist St. Anthony's Health System, a VHA member organization, reduce costs and maximize productivity Xerox evaluated its multi-vendor printing and copying operations. Through its Lean Six Sigma-based Office Productivity Assessment Xerox tracked how and when copiers, printers and fax machines were used throughout the organization. As a result, appropriate print jobs were re-directed to the Xerox WorkCentreTM multifunction systems saving the Baptist St. Anthony nearly $200,000. With Xerox's document management direction, Baptist St. Anthony's is achieving brand consistency throughout its 16 healthcare locations. Documents and forms are standardized for ordering and are now printed on-demand, eliminating waste and reducing costs. For further efficiency, Xerox and business partner Siemens developed a bar code system allowing Baptist to easily track, index and file clinical documents and forms. This system enhanced compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act by allowing for timely and accurate indexing of patient data. "With Xerox's help we now have a fine-tuned, efficient document management operation - and we've reduced print-related costs by 90 percent," said John McKissack, director of facility services, Baptist St. Anthony's Health System. "That's a healthy return on investment." Foote Health System Foote Health System, a 411-bed regional healthcare provider and Premiere member organization serving six Michigan counties, selected Xerox to overhaul its forms management process. Xerox's Document Advisors started by conducting an assessment and used the input to re-design the forms for consistency and communications effectiveness. The hospital's 1,200 forms were then digitally archived with Xerox ReqDirectTM Plus software and are available online for the staff to access and print. The process has enhanced worker productivity, eliminated warehousing of obsolete and out-of-date forms and helped address the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' document standards. Xerox also turned Foote's print shop into a source of cost savings and productivity gains by giving it a complete digital makeover. Printing jobs are now produced on time via the most cost-effective equipment, such as the Xerox DocuColor® 6060 Digital Color Press, and the . Physicians Endoscopy, L.L.C. A leading provider of freestanding ambulatory surgery centers, Physicians Endoscopy uses Xerox DocuShareTM to help automate workflows and business processes around its billing and financial documents. The Pennsylvania-based company chose Xerox DocuShare CPX 6.0, a web-based customized software solution, to route hundreds of heavily annotated documents daily from its 14 facilities nationwide, as well as manage incoming paperwork from insurance companies and banks. The billing process solution has allowed Physicians Endoscopy to redirect nearly 100 hours of employee time per month from searching and printing documents to more business-critical activities. To further drive its paperless initiative and enhance security measures, Physicians Endoscopy also selected Xerox multifunction systems to load electronic patient information into the DocuShare file repository. "Xerox's combination of technology and services addressed our need to automate crucial business processes," said Gene Goroschko, vice president of information technology for Physicians Endoscopy. "As a result of digitizing records, we've said good-bye to file cabinets and hello to improved productivity, bringing us closer to reaching our corporate paperless initiative." continue reading...

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 07, 2008 -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) launched a new version of its SMARTdocument Travel™ workflow software that helps small and mid-sized businesses simplify office processes and scan and archive documents more swiftly and efficiently. "Xerox is leading the charge to help organizations unlock the power of their Xerox office multifunction systems to make their everyday work easier and more productive," said Roger Ellefson, manager of Solutions Marketing, Xerox Office Group. SMARTdocument Travel Express works with multifunction systems from Xerox as well as other vendors. Digitech installed the Xerox 8265 in its sign shop in October 2007 as an early customer test site. Prior to installation, the company used two competitive wide-format products, one for outdoor and one for indoor applications."When Xerox approached us with the 8265, it looked like a great opportunity to capture both pieces of the wide-format market with one piece of equipment," said Jason Morales, information systems manager, Digitech Publishing, Inc. Xerox Continues Broadening its Continuous Feed Portfolio with its Fastest-Yet Monochrome System

in
DÜSSELDORF, Germany, Jan. 17, 2008 -- As it prepares for the world's largest printing exhibition later this year, Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) launched its fastest yet continuous feed printing system that helps print providers capitalize on the high-speed, high-volume monochrome printing market. The new high-speed system makes it easier to produce books, manuals and trans-promotional applications. At a media pre-briefing here today for drupa 2008, Xerox took the wraps off the Xerox 650/1300 Continuous Feed Printing System, which combines speed, ease-of-use and workflow productivity into a powerful device for service bureaus, data centers, and commercial print providers. The company also highlighted new printing technologies, workflow solutions, business development services and applications that fortify Xerox's leadership position in offering the industry's broadest portfolio of systems and solutions. The Xerox 650/1300 can print up to 1,308 duplex 8.5" x 11" images per minute. The system uses dry toner, xerographic imaging and flash-fusing technology - a unique process that does not use heat or pressure or make contact with the paper, allowing the device to print on a wider array of substrates than competitive systems. It is part of an array of offerings that Xerox will bring to drupa, May 29 - June 11, showcasing how graphic communications companies can expand their businesses and profit from growth opportunities in digital printing. "drupa is the Olympics of the graphic communications industry and we'll have a gold medal performance," said Quincy Allen, president, Xerox Production Systems Group. "We'll stand out as the industry's leader for the most advanced technology, widest range of offerings, and opportunities for print providers to profit by exceeding the needs of their customers." A drupa preview As the industry adapts to clients' needs for more environmentally sustainable approaches to printing, Xerox is highlighting its heritage as an environmental leader and as the company of choice that helps print providers "green" their offerings. To demonstrate its decades-long commitment to sustainability, Xerox is integrating green aspects into its 3,500 square-meter booth at drupa. The exhibit is built with environmentally friendly materials, including energy-saving lighting and re-usable components. "We operate in an industry that puts marks on pages and, therefore, our business inherently impacts the environment," added Allen. "However, there are ways to minimize this impact through technological advancements and smarter work processes. At Xerox, we've practiced environmental stewardship long before it was popular to do so and our business has benefited as a result. At drupa and through ongoing outreach with graphic arts customers, we're helping the industry work differently so that the impact on the environment is less and the benefit to their business is more." The company will focus on three key areas at drupa to highlight its competitive advantages in the digital printing marketplace and how customers benefit from Xerox’s advanced offerings including: accelerated innovation in technologies, workflow solutions and business development services. Xerox's advanced digital printing technology, business development services and workflow solutions enable the just-in-time production of brochures, catalogs, statements, books, packaging and other collateral that can be customized for an audience from one to thousands. Xerox will also use the event as a platform to look back at Xerox's five decades of market-making innovations and to leap forward with glimpses of future ground-breaking technologies, including environmentally friendly innovations. industry-leading partnerships and profitable, productive applications such as direct marketing pieces, photo books and photo specialty, packaging, and specialty imaging for secure documents. the opportunities for the commercial print market to become more eco-friendly through technology, toner, inks and paper that can reduce waste, decrease energy use and preserve the world's forests. Among spotlighted innovation, Xerox will feature its expanding portfolio of continuous feed systems including the Xerox 650/1300. A versatile and valuable printing system The Xerox 650/1300 is a natural fit for publishing applications such as books and manuals. New high-speed technology and a streamlined workflow yield the high productivity customers need, while sharp text and graphics ensure the professional look and feel readers expect. Xerox's patented Print Line Management helps operators view, manage and respond to every component in the print line from any print engine's touch-screen interface. Maximum resolution is 1200 x 600 dpi and an optional Xerox FreeFlow™ DocuSP™ print controller is also available. The system also features a wide print web that enables flexible imposition so users can print more efficiently and reduce costs and paper waste. "The monochrome market continues to be a solid revenue generator for our customers and Xerox's advancements in continuous feed serve to help our customers ratchet up even more profitable growth," said Allen. The Xerox 650/1300 Continuous Feed Printing System will be available for order taking immediately in Europe. In North America and developing markets, order taking will begin in the second quarter of this year. The Xerox 650/1300 will have a U.S. price of approximately $495,000 per engine. At drupa, Xerox will also demonstrate the speed and flexibility of its 490/980 Color Continuous Feed Printing System, the fastest full-color toner-based continuous feed device. Unveiled in October of last year, the Xerox 490/980 prints at 600 dpi resolution and maintains top speed when printing full color or black and white, regardless of the number of colors used or the weight of the paper. It prints 226 feet per minute (69 meters) or 493 images per minute two-up, simplex on 8.5" x 11" paper, and 986 images per minute when in the duplex configuration.
